Day 4

Day Description

On the final day of our safari, we enjoy a nice breakfast before heading to our next destination. Quickly, the scenery become more rugged and the shorelines reflect awe-inspiring rock formations. This scenery will follow us until our lunch stop in the city of Savonlinna. You will get to experience it from a unique perspective from the lake.

The city of Savonlinna was founded in 1639, based on Olavinlinna castle, which you get to see up close from the water. The castle was founded by Erik Axelsson Tott in 1475 in an effort to protect the Savonia-Region and to control the unstable border between the Kingdom of Sweden and its Russian adversary. During the Russo-Swedish War (1741–1743), the castle was captured by Field-Marshal Peter Lacy. It was held by Russia from 1743 until 1812, when it was granted back to Finland as a part of the “Old Finland.” Savonlinna is also famous for hosting the famous annual Savonlinna Opera Festival. The operas are performed on a stage built inside Olavinlinna castle.

From Olavinlinna castle, we continue to the harbor of Savonlinna to have a nice lunch outside by the harbor. After lunch we start our last leg of the trip towards our base camp at Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän. Back at Järvisydän the warm saunas and spa indulge us after a long day outside.

We will then head out for our last dinner together. This is the time to go through our experiences on the lake, exchange contact information with new friends, and share photos taken during the trip. After dinner we can enjoy few drinks at the Lotja-Bar and the bravest can hit up the open mic at the karaoke.
